Kingsland Social is a warm, friendly café and event venue in the heart of Kingsland's high street. Led by restaurateur and Head Chef Phil Clark, it has become a local institution known for relaxed dining, great coffee, and welcoming vibes. The team needed a brand identity that captured the approachable spirit of the space and a digital presence that showcased its standout food and sense of community.
Opportunity
I was tasked with creating the logo and brand identity, as well as developing a website concept that could grow with the business. The focus was on crafting something simple, friendly, and visually inviting that reflected both the hospitality and personality of the venue.
The visual identity was designed to feel familiar and welcoming, drawing inspiration from the kinds of restaurants Phil had admired in the French villages where he once frequented. He wanted Kingsland Social to feel like a place that had been serving passersby for decades. The logo strikes a balance between the traditional and the contemporary, evoking a strong sense of place while remaining accessible and unpretentious.
Building on the brand system, I created a website concept that placed food at the heart of the experience, while also supporting features like reservations and voucher purchases. Bold typography was paired with menu-inspired copy, playful sketches from a bygone era, and Phil's existing modern photography to highlight standout dishes and communicate the café’s easygoing, communal atmosphere.
The design was flexible enough to support both everyday diners and event bookings, reinforcing the café’s dual role as a daytime local and an evening host.
Outcome
Today, Kingsland Social continues to serve its community with heart, great food, and a spirit that feels like it has always belonged on the high street. Although the full website was not deployed, the branding helped define the venue’s tone and position.
